
Estonian music at Veszprém city & lake Balaton region
In 2023 Veszprém city and lake Balaton region is the European Capital of Cultural. The title will be owned by the Estonian twin city of Veszprém, Tartu in 2024.
MARI KALKUN CONCERT
Her voice is pure and caressing, like a forest fairy singing, her songs are simply deep, as befits one of the most respected performers of Estonian folk. Playing the kannel (an ancient stringed instrument, the Estonian equivalent of the kantele), piano and accordion, Kalkun sings of nature's wisdom, human folly, and eternal emotions with the poetic expressiveness that only the best of the genre can achieve.

CURLY STRINGS CONCERT
Curly Strings is an acoustic four-piece band that draws its inspiration from their own personal heritage in the current Estonian cultural space. Intense and playful ensemble work paired with a sincere presentation of their original music forms the main basis of Curly Strings’ soundscape. They bring their unique Baltic take to the acoustic music world in combining the familiar with the unfamiliar, having catchy heartfelt songwriting side-by-side with folk music aesthetics, making them an exciting act to look out for.

KRISTIINA EHIN AND SILVER SEPP: POETRY & MUSIC
An evening full of songs, poetry and stories from Estonia by Silver Sepp and Kristiina Ehin is taking you to the landscapes of Estonian bogs and seaside meadows where the summer is short and light and the gray winter seems to last forever. Kristiina and Silver are diving into existential questions of how to live, love and care of eachother in the planet where wars have never ended. Could the knowledge of roots and family stories help us to find out who we are and where we truly belong to? The couple shares their songs and poetry often made together.

SILVER SEPP FOLK MUSIC WORKSHOP
Growing up in a musical family, singing has been second nature to Silver Sepp since childhood. He transmits the ease and joy of singing and Estonial vocal tradition effortlessly, inviting anyone to join. Participants can get a taste of the age-old tradition, the runometer of mythical times and the beauty of Estonian language, and sing together like our ancestors did, huddled around the fire in the days of yore.
